Swimmers Code of Conduct

Holywell Swimming Club is affiliated with the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association (WASA) and follows WASA rules, including the Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and Equity Policy. Full copies of these documents are available on our website or the Swim Wales website. The “Swimmers Code of Conduct” below highlights key guidelines for all members to follow. This is not an exhaustive list but covers major areas of importance. The charter is divided into categories, and your role may change, so we encourage you to read each section carefully to understand your responsibilities as a club member.

To maximize the benefits of training and maintain a supportive, respectful environment, swimmers should follow these detailed guidelines:

General Rules of Behaviour for All Members
As a member of Holywell Swimming Club, you are expected to uphold the following standards of conduct during any activity held or sanctioned by the Club:

Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour at all times.

Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of others, regardless of their gender, abilities, cultural background, or religion.

Be fair, considerate, and honest in all interactions with others.

Act professionally and take responsibility for your actions.

Commit to being part of a club that provides a quality service in a safe environment for the sport.

Abide by the rules, regulations, and policies of the sport, including National and International guidelines.

Do not use your involvement with the Club to promote personal beliefs or practices inconsistent with the Club's values.

Refrain from acts of aggression or harassment.

Avoid behaviour that may bring the Club into disrepute.
Swimmers’ Code of Behaviour
As a swimming member, you are expected to meet the following conduct requirements during any activity held or sanctioned by the Club:
Respect for Others
Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of fellow swimmers, coaches, officials, and spectators.

Value the talent, potential, and development of your teammates and competitors.

Abide by the rules and respect the decisions of officials. Any appeals should be made through the formal process, respecting the final decision.

Do not tolerate acts of aggression.
Personal Conduct
Be honest in your attitude and preparation for training. Work hard for both yourself and your team, and cooperate with coaches and staff in preparing for competition.

Be open with your coach about illness, injury, or your ability to meet training requirements.

Conduct yourself considerately, ensuring your language and temper are appropriate in public or group settings.

Alcohol and smoking are forbidden for athletes under the legal age.

The use of performance-enhancing drugs and illegal substances is strictly prohibited.

Ensure that any medication you take does not contain banned substances. Report any current medication to the team staff when traveling with the team.
Personal Appearance
Take pride in your appearance. Ensure it is appropriate to the situation, as directed by team staff.

Wear team kit as directed by the team staff.
Team Requirements
Foster a positive attitude towards team goals and cooperate with team members and staff.

Punctuality is highly valued.

When away with the team, attend all team meetings and functions as directed by team staff. Observe any team curfews.
Team Sanctions
Breaches of this code will initially be dealt with by the team staff. If necessary, a report will be submitted to the Committee of Holywell Swimming Club for further action.
