Swim Wales Summer Nationals 2025

Swim Wales Summer Nationals 2025

20 Holywell swimmers travelled to Swansea for the Swim Wales 2025 Summer Nationals, held over 5 days from July 30th to August 3rd. The team was led by coach Lorna Clarke and supported by family and friends who travelled down to support them. A huge thank you to you all!

The Team looked amazing on poolside wearing a new white kit that was designed especially for the event. The team stood out as they cheered for their teammates on, in both preliminary events and finals.

Some amazing swims over the 5 days saw the team win a total of 22 Championship medals – 9 Golds, 10 Silver and 3 Bronze.

Swim Wales National Championship Champions

  • Tomas Clarke – 200 Fly and 50 Backstroke
  • Patrick McCullagh – 1500m Freestyle
  • Reggie Park – 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m Freestyle

We had some fabulous swims from the team and not just the gold medal swims mentioned above. Everyone swam well, worked hard on their race processes, had some great personal best times, and swam memorable swims over the week.

  • Thomas Baldwin – 1500m Silver and 800m Bronze in the freestyle events.
  • Thomas Clarke – 200m Fly and 50m Backstroke Golds
  • Charlie de Haan – 50m, 100m, 200m Backstroke winning Silver in them all.
  • Sian Evans – Silver in the 50m Fly.
  • Noah Jones Walker – Silver 50m & 100m Free, Silver in the 50m & 100m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.
  • Patrick McCullagh – Gold in the 1500m Freestyle and Silver in the 400m Freestyle.

Stand out swimmer was undoubtedly Reggie Park. Prior to Summer Nationals, Reggie was invited into the Swim England 5k open water meet where he finished as the fastest Welsh swimmer in his age group. Following that success, he went on to achieve something very rarely seen at a Welsh Nationals. Reggie completed a clean sweep, winning gold in ALL 6 of the freestyle events, a fantastic achievement. Reggie also made the time for the Welsh squads for his 400m freestyle.

About Terry Boardman

I have been coaching at Holywell ASC for nearly 19 years, beginning as a volunteer when my two sons swam for the club. After earning my Level 1 coaching qualification in 2005, I progressed to Level 2 and became head coach in 2010. In 2013, I achieved my UKCC Level 3 Senior Coaching Certificate and completed a degree in Sports and Exercise Science to deepen my understanding of the sport.

I’ve gained valuable experience from renowned coaches and programs, including Swim Wales, British Swimming’s S&C coach Barry Shillabeer, and mentoring from industry experts like James Stannard and Barry Healey. I also hold training in disability coaching and am a deaf-registered coach.

My coaching philosophy spans all levels, from entry to performance and masters swimming, focusing on skill development, inclusion, and following British Swimming’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. My goal is to empower swimmers to achieve their aspirations through a holistic approach that combines technical skills, personal growth, and life skills.
