Regional Championships 2024 Report

Regional Championships 2024 Report

The Regional Short Course Championships 2024 were held over 3 days: on the 15th / 16th / 17th of November.

29 Swimmers represented Holywell Swimming Club at the Championships and they certainly gave it their all! We came away with multiple Regional Champions; a true credit to all the hard work that the swimmers put into their training.

Great team support from all our swimmers, some super-fast swims all helped the team to achieve one of our best Regionals Championships in years.

Before we get into the amazing individual results I would like to pass on the following. I have received a message from Olwen Catheral, the meet organiser and person who runs the backroom/timing systems at Llandudno. Her words are shared by me and many other coaches, team managers, officials and volunteers who help out at these meets.

Please see Olwen’s message below.

“Good Evening
I wanted to extend my deepest gratitude to all the Clubs for your incredible dedication, hard work, and support.

To the Officials, thank you for your professionalism and ensuring the smooth running of our events.

To the volunteers (Announcers, Medal Table, Door and Marshalls) your selflessness and willingness to give your time and energy have been truly inspiring. We couldn’t have accomplished our goals without your invaluable help and enthusiasm.

And to the swimmers/ Coaches, your passion, perseverance, and sportsmanship have been nothing short of remarkable. You have shown us all what it means to strive for excellence and to push beyond our limits.

Please share my thanks and gratitude to all those who volunteered in any way from your Clubs.”

Regards Olwen.

Well done to all the Holywell swimmers who took part in the 2024 Regional Championships the team recorded some very fast times, the amount of PBs our swimmers set was amazing! Coach Terry

About Terry Boardman

I have been coaching at Holywell ASC for nearly 19 years, beginning as a volunteer when my two sons swam for the club. After earning my Level 1 coaching qualification in 2005, I progressed to Level 2 and became head coach in 2010. In 2013, I achieved my UKCC Level 3 Senior Coaching Certificate and completed a degree in Sports and Exercise Science to deepen my understanding of the sport.

I’ve gained valuable experience from renowned coaches and programs, including Swim Wales, British Swimming’s S&C coach Barry Shillabeer, and mentoring from industry experts like James Stannard and Barry Healey. I also hold training in disability coaching and am a deaf-registered coach.

My coaching philosophy spans all levels, from entry to performance and masters swimming, focusing on skill development, inclusion, and following British Swimming’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. My goal is to empower swimmers to achieve their aspirations through a holistic approach that combines technical skills, personal growth, and life skills.
